Abstract

Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh is a national level organisation devoted to the development and upgradation of knowledge of those who are working in the banking sector of the country or related to it through its different activities. One of these activities is the publication of a Journal, mainly highlighting the issues relating to the problems and challenging roles that is to be played by financial institutions in the changing economic situation of the country. The publication always tries to accommodate the views expressed by academicians, researchers of the country and the bankers who are actually engaged in tackling the problems of the financial sector in their day-to-day operation. Bangladesh Economy is presently going through a transitional phase, from state-regulated economy to a market economic system. Development of private entrepreneurship is one of the main prerequisites for successful transition of the economy to the desired stage. In this particular stage bank financing plays a crucial role in developing an entrepreneurial class. This function can be effectively performed by the bankers if they are equipped with the knowledge of dynamic changes in the banking practice of the modern world. In this pursuit a clear knowledge of the specific characteristics of the Bangladesh Economy is essential. The Editorial Board selected the articles on various issues relating to banking sector of the world and performance of the banking sector of the country. The Editorial Board takes this opportunity to express its regret for not being able to bring out the journal as per schedule due to unavoidable circumstances. The Board hopes that the readers and the contributors shall take note of this unfortunate delay.
